The Babel Routing protocol was originally designed for unstable networks, and therefore works fairly well in mesh networks. Since it was designed, Babel has evolved to cover new use cases, such as overlay networks and unadministered home networks. It is currently in the final stages of standardisation by the IETF.
In this talk, I will describe the Babel routing protocol, and those of its features that make it work well in unstable and mesh networks. I will then describe some recent extensions and changes to the protocol, and the new applications that they make possible.
